"Paragraph-5" by Blake Levinson
Moderator: Jim Henry
After learning that federally-dictated redlining required all banks to reject their home mortgage application, a Black couple turns to a real estate speculator who cons them into signing a misleading sales contract. Inspired by real events during the 1950s, this tragedy chronicles the perfect storm of racism, greed and fear that ripped apart neighborhoods, families, and friends in Chicago, as well as many other northern cities across the country.
About the First Draft Series
The First Draft Series is an exclusive series of Tuesday-night play readings for and by First Draft Member playwrights. These are private, salon-style readings in which playwrights perform the roles and then discuss the plays in a format similar to that used in the Saturday Series. The discussions are moderated by a Resident Playwright or member of the artistic staff.
