Lady Audley's Secret by Neill Shanahan
Moderator: Robert Tenges
Lady Audley’s Secret is an adaptation of the 1862 “sensation” novel written by Mary Elizabeth Braddon. The story centers on the beautiful heroine, Lady Audley, who marries Sir Michael, a rich baron, without revealing her true identity and background. When Sir Michael’s nephew, Robert, becomes suspicious that she hides a significant secret, he begins an investigation and increasingly intense confrontation that threatens to drag the family down into significant scandal. The fact that his motives may not be altruistic, his methods less than just and the punishment more harsh the alleged crimes, give rise to the question as to who’s right and who’s wrong.
About the First Draft Series
The First Draft Series is an exclusive series of Tuesday-night play readings for and by First Draft Member playwrights. These are private, salon-style readings in which playwrights perform the roles and then discuss the plays in a format similar to that used in the Saturday Series. The discussions are moderated by a Resident Playwright or member of the artistic staff.
