Lighthouse Beach by Neill Shanahan
Moderator: Interim Artistic Director, Dana Lynn Formby
Kristine, one of the nation’s earliest female neurosurgeons, is a prodigy and a pioneer, embattled as she seeks to navigate through the male dominated field. Her career requires ferocious dedication. She’s also a single parent with a daughter who’s equally intense about her musical career. Their relationship is troubled as Claire grows up and as each pursues their exalted career objectives. The cost of their dedication is measured in their estrangement and countless missed opportunities to connect. Finally, a crisis occurs which brings each to their emotional edge and the desperate fear of permanent loss.
About the First Draft Series
The First Draft Series is an exclusive series of Tuesday-night play readings for and by First Draft Member playwrights. These are private, salon-style readings in which playwrights perform the roles and then discuss the plays in a format similar to that used in the Saturday Series. The discussions are moderated by a Resident Playwright or member of the artistic staff.
