Life in a Sandcastle
By Resident Playwright Alumnus Jayme McGhan

directed by Judy Blue

Featuring: Maia Madison, Mia McCullough, Erica Elam, Heather Chrisler, Nicole Tuthill, Judy Blue

Two getaway weekends on the shore of Lake Michigan collide when childhood friends and family from two separate worlds find themselves doing battle against one another for the same beachside fire pit. Political persuasions, economic privilege, religious affiliations, regional proclivities, educational barriers, and a mess of cheap beer, expensive wine, and dill pickles chips quickly become both shields and weapons as the women do battle for the sandy square footage they feel is rightly theirs. Life in a Sandcastle is a hilarious and touching exploration of the importance of connection in a disconnected world.

The play will be produced as an educational production at Concordia University Chicago in February as part of the ongoing partnership between CUC and Chicago Dramatists.

About the Saturday Series

Every Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM (except for holiday weekends), Chicago Dramatists hosts a Saturday Series event in our theatre. Most Saturday Series events are public readings of plays-in-progress.

All plays read in the Saturday Series are directed, rehearsed, and presented with minimal staging. After each reading, the audience members are invited to fill out written response sheets and to join in a moderated post-reading discussion.

We hope you will join us for this Saturday Series event!
