Play at Paste

By Network Playwright, Dennis Fisher
Post-Reading Discussion Moderator: Jim Henry

Unemployment is rampant, Henry and Mildred Taylor are worried about Henry losing his job, about raising their son in a crime riddled neighborhood, how they will support themselves when they get older, and their lack of health care.

Set in a small town on Illinois’ prairie landscape, it does not take place in the present, but rather in January of 1933, at the height of the Great Depression. Roosevelt is elected but not yet in office and the couple are wondering if things will get better or if their family might not survive. In the middle of a terrible crisis they are faced with examining how they are served by their convictions. PLAY AT PASTE examines the problems of today through the lens of 1933.

About the First Draft Series

The First Draft Series is an exclusive series of Tuesday-night play readings for and by Network playwrights. These are private, salon-style readings in which playwrights perform the roles and then discuss the plays in a format similar to that used in the Saturday Series. The discussions are moderated by a Resident Playwright or member of the artistic staff.
