Writing the Solo Play or Monologue
with Resident Playwright Arlene Malinowski
1 Weekend, Jan 23 to Jan 24
This Solo Show-track "weekend warrior" class is designed for actors, playwrights, solo artists, and storytellers of all levels–from those who are thinking about writing a one-person play or narrative to those who are in the final stages of polishing one.
This hands-on workshop will focus on solo fundamentals: (1) the 12 styles of solo pieces; (2) finding your voice and the voice of the story; (3) designing the solo story plot structure; (4) techniques to manipulate the storyteller/audience relationship; (5) character development and writing multiple character scenes; and (6) creative and nontraditional use of timelines, plotlines, and stories.
Participants may choose to bring to the first session: 5-7 minutes of a solo show, a small story or even just an idea for a one-person show. We will have big fun!
