PLAYWRITING LAB

This class is designed for beginning playwrights and also for more experienced writers looking to hone their basic skills. Through a variety of in-class writing exercises, at-home writing assignments, class discussions, and in-class readings of participantsÕ work, writers will learn the essentials of good playwriting, including character motivation, plot structure, dialogue, dramatic conflict, as well as proper formatting and the submission process. Writers will have the opportunity to share their work in a supportive and challenging environment.

This Course is offered at the following times:

Instructor Bios:
M.E.H. (Margaret) LEWIS

M.E.H. (Margaret) LEWIS is a two-time Illinois Arts Council fellow whose work has been seen at The New Theatre in Melbourne, Fountain Theatre in Los Angeles and Cherry Lane Theatre in New York. A Resident Playwright with Chicago Dramatists, she has been nominated for two Jeff Awards and received one. Last winter, Stage Left Theatre produced her play ÒHere Where ItÕs Safe.Ó
