SOLO SHOW - Writing the 1-Person Play

This class is designed for actors, playwrights, solo artists, and storytellers of all levels, from those who are thinking about writing a one-person play to those who are in the final stages of polishing their own solo show. This hands-on workshop will focus on: 1. The ten styles of solo pieces. 2. Finding your voice and the Voice of the story. 3. Designing the solo story plot structure. 4. Techniques to manipulate the storyteller/audience relationship. 5. Character development and writing multiple character scenes. 6. Creative and nontraditional use of timelines, plotlines and stories. (Participants may bring to the first session: 5-7 minutes of their solo show, or a story they think may become part of a solo show, or even just an idea for a solo show.)

Instructor Bios:
ARLENE MALINOWSKI

ARLENE MALINOWSKI has been performing her critically-acclaimed solo shows across the country, including St. Louis Center, Ojai Solo Series, The L.A. WomenÕs Theatre Festival, HBO Workspace, Blue Sphere Alliance, West Coast Ensemble, colleges nationwide, and the 16th Street Theater in Berwyn, IL. She is a Resident Playwright at Chicago Dramatists, which workshopped her newest play ÒAiming For SainthoodÓ as part of the ÒIn the WorksÓ theatre lab series of Millennium Park last spring. ÒAiming For SainthoodÓ will be produced in fall 2010 at Victory Gardens Theater.
