MARY RUTH CLARKE writes for the stage and screen. She co-wrote and starred in the original low-budget MEET THE PARENTS and adapted it into the blockbuster MEET THE PARENTS, starring Robert De Niro, for which she shares Story credit with Greg Glienna. The original MEET THE PARENTS was selected by critic Dave Kerr as his favorite home-grown Chicago movie and was featured at the Gene Siskel Film Center’s grand opening. SUFFER THE LONG NIGHT, a play she co-wrote with her MTP partner, Greg Glienna, was produced in the summer of ’08 in Los Angeles at the Meta Theater.ZAP! THE UNAUTHORIZED HISTORY OF THE MICROWAVE OVEN was produced at Live Bait Theater. MRS. LEE was produced at Chicago Dramatists. HOW ARE WE ON TIME was produced at Strawdog and was the only play ever performed as part of Chicago Public Radio’s Stories On Stage.Mary Ruth is also a dramaturge with the Prop Thtr New Plays festival. She has doctored many screenplays, three of which have gone on to be produced. She has taught numerous workshops in writing and in acting. Mary Ruth is also a “trained brain” in product innovation, packaging, and brand positioning. In short, she has helped invent a new gum, named a Disney theme park, interviewed kids on Ritalin, and endeavors to make coherent sense of American consumers. It is not always pretty.She has an MFA from Emerson College, a BFA in Theater and a BFA in Art History from Ohio University.
