Writers' Groups

Writing can be a very isolating experience. We know that writers often crave community, deadlines, and a safe-yet-stimulating space to share their work. Our various writers' groups are geared toward providing writers with those intangibles, as well as offering somewhat individualized groups for writers at different places in their careers. Some of our groups include the opportunity to have industry professionals as guests for the final four meetings.

Parent Playwrights - Thursday daytime

This is an eight session weekly writers group for playwrights and screenwriters who are also the primary caregiver of their kid(s). This group is for writers who have studied dramatic writing extensively,  and are looking for structure, community, and accountability. Up to 8 writers will present anywhere from 30 pages to a full length piece at least twice during the 8 week session, providing feedback for their cohort, and honing their projects. An industry professional (director, literary manager, or dramaturg) will be present for the last 4 sessions to hear the writers' work and offer feedback.

There is no teacher for this group, and participants are expected to work out a schedule. Staff support is available for this if it's necessary. Hard copies of the script pages for workshop – with enough notice – can be made, but staff (and the environment) appreciates efforts to share work electronically.
