The Writer's Studio Musical Theatre track is designed to provide playwrights with a solid foundation for writing musical theatre. From 2-days to 6 weeks you will write, train, refine, polish, and will receive tailored feedback on your musical.

Musical Theatre Bootcamp (Summer 2018 & 2019)
Designed to support individual writers as well as collaborative teams, this 2-day bootcamp offers you a chance to gain valuable new tools for developing musical theatre work, and present work for constructive feedback.
Appropriate for playwrights, lyricists, and composers with projects at any stage of development, this bootcamp is a kickstarter for new work, and will add fresh perspectives to your projects already in process. If you are passionate about musical theatre, this is a weekend you can't miss!Prerequisite: None
Secret Life of the American Musical Workshop
Based on Jack Viertel’s landmark book, The Secret Life of the American Musical, this 6-week class offers provides insight into what makes a great musical work. Each week you will study masterwork examples from Gypsy to Hamilton, learn skills to create new work, share work in progress, plus much more! Experienced writers gain new tools for refining their musicals, and newcomers to musical theatre writing will gain a “big picture” perspective.
Hone your lyric writing in this one-of-a-kind six-week writing lab! Grounded in musical theatre and cabaret, you will gain tools for analyzing lyrics, develop ideas effectively through a song and score, and learn how to structure theatre songs lyrically and musically for maximum impact. Come improve your lyric writing through presentation of your work for group discussion and constructive feedback in a supportive atmosphere.
Musicals in Process
Designed to support book writers, lyricists, and composers who have a musical already underway, this advanced course will build on the craft principles taught in Secret Life. Over six weeks, you will collaborate, revise, and receive tailored feedback on your musical-in-process—readying you to submit for professional productions and competitive development opportunities.
Prerequisite: Secret Life of the American Musical Workshop or permission of Instructor
